FAQ about Pressure Sensitive Labels

  • Metallized paper is an ideal face stock for pressure-sensitive labels for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it is hugely attractive before it’s even been branded or has imagery or text added. Naturally glossy with its eye-catching metallic aesthetic, brands can leverage its appeal to convey a premium and high-value feel to their customers.

  • By offering metallized paper labels to brands using pressure-sensitive applications, you’re actively presenting a solution that is cost-effective, but significantly boosts shelf appeal when compared to less attractive face stock options. Our metallized paper is made into labels that give brands the premium look they’re after.

  • While brands are most often focused on using a label that looks great, elevates their products and increases shelf appeal, for expert printers and converters like yourselves, producing a perfect pressure-sensitive label is about multiple processes coming together perfectly. For your clients, there is often an understanding that pressure-sensitive labels are just a case of ‘print, cut and stick’ but it’s more complicated than that, as you well know.

  • Pressure-sensitive labels can be a popular choice because they eliminate the need to work with glue (necessary for wet-strength or general cut and stack labels, for example) and there isn’t any need for heat or water to make the label stick. This means that pressure-sensitive applications may be suitable for lower production numbers or are convenient for brands or converters who want the relative ease of label application without glue. Pressure-sensitive applications are fuss-free and potentially less messy than applications with glue.

  • Pressure-sensitive label stock is made up of three main parts: the face stock (in our case, we supply metallized paper face stock), an adhesive layer in the middle and the liner. Only the face stock is visible on the final label; the adhesive layer is too thin to see and the liner, which simply serves as a protective layer for the adhesive, is later discarded. When the liner is peeled off and reveals the adhesive layer, applied pressure will stick the label to the container in question. There are various types of pressure-sensitive label – for example, some have extra-strength adhesions, and others are repositionable. Converters and brands will work together to decide on the right adhesion necessary for the end product, but pressure-sensitive labels are suitable to be used on a variety of materials and ideal for resisting high or low temperatures.
