What you need to know about electrostaticity and metallized paper

In the winter months, electrostaticity can be an issue when working with web materials like: plastic film, paper or metallized paper. In today’s #TechTipTuesday, we take a look at how to protect your reels from negative effects and avoid disruption to your production processes. Be sure to pay attention to:

  1. Storage temperature: in cold conditions, electrostatic charge can occur when unwinding reels and cause a flip-over of the web during the wrapping process. To avoid this, avoid conserving reels below 10°C and store them at normal room temperature for at least 72 hours before using them in the production process.
  2. Humidity: don’t forget that paper is a breathing product that interacts with the atmosphere. In dry conditions, paper will lose moisture, while humid air will cause the paper to absorb moisture. For optimal production, reels need to be perfectly balanced.
