Elevating your logo with glossy effects

Elevating your logo with glossy effects

A lot of care and attention goes into developing a logo, and for good reason. A good logo is a powerful asset that immediately brings your brand to mind - think Nike’s iconic swoosh, or Apple’s half-eaten fruit. The word “logo” is short for “logotype”, which comes from the ancient Greek words lógos (“word” or “speech”) and túpos (“mark” or “imprint”).

Glossy looks are associated with an exclusive, high quality feel. Brands often opt for metallic effects when designing packaging for luxury products such as sparkling wine, premium chocolates or high-end cosmetics.

Inks are one way to get the look. Metallic inks can be used to help logos “pop” against a matte background and look great when applied correctly, though specialised equipment may be required.

Using metallized paper is another great way for companies to “switch up” their traditional logo for a seasonal packaging line or limited edition product. An eye-catching option is for instance the use of opaque inks combined with metallized paper for show-through, which provides truly stunning effects.

For brands who want to take things a step further, it’s possible to create a custom holographic design on metallized paper using all or part of a logo for a truly brand-exclusive look...
