AR Metallizing joins 4evergreen to boost sustainable packaging

Today AR Metallizing joins industry alliance 4evergreen. The goal of the alliance is to increase the contribution of fibre-based packaging in a circular and sustainable economy.

At AR Metallizing, we are passionate about metallized paper and metallized holographic paper and the functional, aesthetic and technical benefits these offer our customers and the entire supply chain.

We aim to further expand the role of paper-based monomaterials in today’s packaging. Packaging that uses lots of different materials (multi-material) has been the norm, but increasingly, brands are looking to switch to mono-materials to make  their packaging more eco-friendly, sustainable and easily recyclable. Over the past years we have pushed the boundaries of vacuum metallization technology enabling us to manufacture technically advanced papers with barrier properties fit for a wide variety of industries (Food, Cosmetics, Pharma and many other FMCG sectors). Most of our products are for 95% made of paper, enabling our customers to replace their traditionally used multi-layer packaging with a monomaterial.

To further drive this progress, we have joined 4evergreen alliance. 4evergreen is a cross-industry alliance perfecting the circularity of fibre-based packaging to contribute to a climate-neutral and sustainable society. Our goal is to raise the overall recycling rate of fibre-based packaging to 90% by 2030. We bring a particular focus on packaging with a lower circularity performance today, namely the types used for household, out-of-home and on-the-go consumption. The host of the initiative is Cepi (the Confederation of European Paper Industries)

Over the past years, AR Metallizing has launched several new value added, sustainable products. Among these the high-quality metallized barrier papers, specially designed to address emerging initiatives to replace plastics used in food and feed packaging and increase the contribution in the circular economy.

Giorgio Bosso, CEO AR Metallizing: “Our aim is to innovate and lead by example. For years now, our company has been committed to sustainabilty. When our business was established over 50 years ago, we initially specialized in the production of metallized paper for labels. In the decades that followed, we diversified the use of our product, and they are now trusted by over 300 businesses in 80 countries for packaging applications as well. Our company has long recognized that joining forces is critical to our and our industry’s long-term success. Our membership of 4evergreen underlines our mission to continue to work in a responsible and forward-looking way with our trusted industry partners.”

Daniela Mondelli, R&D Director AR Metallizing: “We are very much looking forward to work within the 4evergreen alliance with a wide range of partners from the packaging industry to push for a healthier, more sustainable value chain through the development of novel technologies and globally viable solutions”.

Tiina Pursula, 4evergreen Deputy Chair  and SVP Sustainability, Division Packaging Materials, Stora Enso: “We are pleased to welcome AR Metallizing to the 4evergreen alliance, with their history of innovative practices and commitment to sustainability, we look forward to the contributions of our new colleagues and their contributions to raising the overall recycling rate of fibre-based packaging to 90% by 2030”.
