In the spotlight: Interview with Bernhard Masula

In the spotlight: Interview with Bernhard Masula

When did you join Nissha Metallizing Solution (former Eurofoil)
I have been part of the production team since October 21, 1991.

What do you like about your job and colleagues?
I’m in constant contact with all my colleagues because people always need something from me! This means I always know what's going on in the factory. It's a very demanding job, because I have to make sure that everything that is needed for production is in stock, whether big or small. Many materials are repaired or reordered from abroad, meaning I deal with many customers and companies.

How many years have you also been a member of the works council?
For 12 years already!

As a member of the works council, you are the plant's representative for severely disabled people. What does this involve and in which cases do employees contact you?
Many questions refer to general information about severe disability. For example, what does it mean to be “severely disabled”, where can you go for information if you have a disability, or how the process with the authorities works. Sometimes, it’s employees’ spouses who have the questions.
Supporting colleagues through the formal process and having their appointments go successfully is a big source of satisfaction. But I also support employees who have to stop working for us for health reasons until all the formalities have been completed.

Where can we find you outside of work?
Up until a few years ago, my hobby was diving. Unfortunately, I can no longer dive due to damage in my right ear. My most interesting experience was when I went ice diving twice and was able to experience the underwater world below the ice sheet. My new hobby is photography. I have taken short trips to many areas and specialize in night shots and sunrises, if you can call it that. It's always a pleasure to get up at night to take pictures of the sun rising in special places. Just watching the starry sky in the middle of the night and then going home with great photos.
